The unique wedge shaped atrium space highlights this prominent intersection in the capital city of Wisconsin. The atrium showcases an all glass stair requiring a light weight façade. Horizontal steel tubes are suspended from the roof and are braced at the building and by light columns in the atrium. A hinged corner connection allows load transfer at the complex tip intersection. Glass is linear supported.

A multiple level glass staircase is comprised of architectural steelwork and uses cast glass for the treads and landings. The balustrade is of cantilevered point supported glass and brushed stainless steel handrails complete the dramatic landmark feature. The stair is wrapped by a wedge shaped atrium of highly transparent structural glazing with limited structure.

A small light weight skylight serves to both let light into the complex but also as a visual external beacon above the flat roofed complex. Tension bracing rods allow the tubular steel to be kept very slender and linear supported glass minimizes the total system depth. The structure was unitized to minimize site assembly time and shipping costs.

The main lobby façade features huge insulated glass panels which weigh a tonne each supported by architectural steelwork. The glass is annealed as size exceeds tempering capabilities. The huge panels provide transparency between the larger aluminum clad structural steel elements, which serve also to support the roof and to house hot water radiant systems to prevent condensation.
